Many people in Bloemfontein, Mangaung, and surrounding areas tune in daily to enjoy the best afternoon drive show on the station: the Cell C Drive Show.
What many may not realize is the hardworking team behind the scenes dedicated to ensuring the show’s ongoing success.
The Cell C Drive Show airs weekdays from 15:00 to 18:00 on Motheo FM 88.5. This vibrant afternoon drive show aims to inform, educate, and entertain listeners while keeping them engaged during their afternoon commutes and daily activities.
Hosted by Sediboy, with Nyakallo Modise as the producer and Section 10, whose real name is Zongezile Nikani, contributing sports coverage, the team works together to create a professionally executed program that captivates audiences.
Covering a wide array of topics including current affairs, community issues, lifestyle, education, health, entertainment, sports, and social matters, the show features several interactive segments to encourage listener participation and address issues affecting communities.
One noteworthy segment, “My Opinion, My View,” focuses on contentious topics within communities, allowing listeners to share their perspectives and experiences on matters that resonate with them.
“What Day Is It?” recognizes and celebrates important national and international observances, using these occasions to foster conversations and raise awareness around relevant themes.
The “Taxi Driver vs Passenger” segment provides a platform for both taxi drivers and passengers to discuss their experiences, challenges, and concerns associated with public transport.
Nyakallo Modise emphasizes the show's strong focus on health awareness and community education. “Mental Health Mondays,” featuring clinical social worker Rethabile Lenkoe, aims to address misconceptions surrounding mental health and create a supportive environment encouraging individuals to seek help.
In addition to addressing community issues, the show is passionate about nurturing local talent by providing emerging artists with an opportunity to showcase their work, share their stories, and have their music played on air. The team believes that community radio plays a vital role in supporting new talent and giving artists the exposure they need to flourish.
The show also features interviews with professionals, community leaders, and individuals with inspirational stories or valuable insights, bringing important issues and expert knowledge to the forefront.
Content preparation begins with identifying relevant topics that resonate with the target audience. As the producer, Nyakallo researches stories, identifies potential interview guests, prepares questions, develops the program rundown, and coordinates with presenters and contributors. Keeping up with current affairs and trending conversations ensures the content remains relevant and engaging.
“Radio is more than just entertainment; it is a powerful platform for education, awareness, and community engagement. I love creating content that can inform, challenge thinking, or inspire positive change,” Nyakallo stated, highlighting the importance of listener feedback and impact.
Having first taken on the Afternoon Drive Show role from 2023 to 2024, Nyakallo later produced the MTN Morning Show before returning to the Afternoon Drive Show in 2025.
Listeners can look forward to a dynamic afternoon filled with informative conversations, exciting interviews, entertainment, music, competitions, and interactive discussions.
“We want our listeners to feel represented and heard. Whether discussing local issues, sharing important information, or simply bringing a smile to someone’s face at the end of the day, there is always something to anticipate on the Cell C Drive Show. Our motto is to inform, educate, and entertain while staying true to Motheo FM’s slogan: Where You Matter,” Nyakallo emphasized.
